The Structural Effects of Rotation in Low Mass Stars
نویسندگان
چکیده
We present theoretical models of rotating low mass stars (0.1 1.0 M⊙ ) to demonstrate the effect of rotation on the effective temperature and luminosity of stars. The range of rotation rates in our models corresponds to the observed rotation rates in young low mass stars. Rotation lowers the effective temperature and luminosity of the models relative to standard models of the same mass and composition. We find that the decrease in Teff and L can be significant at the higher end of our mass range, but becomes small below 0.4 M⊙ . The effects of different assumptions about internal angular momentum transport are discussed. Formulae for relating Teff to mass and vrot are presented. We demonstrate that the kinetic energy of rotation is not a significant contribution to the luminosity of low mass stars. Effects of Rotation on Mass Loss for Population III stars
The effects of rotation on low-metallicity stellar models are twofold: first, the models reach break-up during main sequence and may lose mass by mechanical process; second, strong internal mixing brings freshly synthesized elements towards the surface and raises the effective metallicity to higher values, so that the initially very low radiative winds are enhanced. Those two effects are also f...
متن کاملRotational mixing in low-mass stars II. Self-consistent models of Pop II RGB stars
In this paper we study the effects of rotation in low-mass, low-metallicity RGB stars. We present the first evolutionary models taking into account self-consistently the latest prescriptions for the transport of angular momentum by meridional circulation and shear turbulence in stellar interiors as well as the associated mixing processes for chemicals computed from the ZAMS to the upper RGB. We...
متن کاملTheoretical models of low-mass, pre-main sequence rotating stars I. The effects on lithium depletion
Rotating stellar models of 1.2 M down to 0.6 M have been computed to investigate the effects of rotation on the lithium depletion of low-mass, pre-main sequence stars. The models were generated under three different rotation laws (rigid body rotation, local conservation of angular momentum over the whole star, and local conservation of angular momentum in radiative zones and rigid body rotation...
متن کاملMassive star evolution: from the early to the present day Universe
Mass loss and axial rotation are playing key roles in shaping the evolution of massive stars. They affect the tracks in the HR diagram, the lifetimes, the surface abundances, the hardness of the radiation field, the chemical yields, the presupernova status, the nature of the remnant, the mechanical energy released in the interstellar medium, etc... In this paper, after recalling a few character...
متن کاملForty Years of X-Ray Binaries
In 2012 it was forty years ago that the discovery of the first X-ray binary Centaurus X-3 became known. That same year it was discovered that apart from the High-Mass X-ray Binaries (HMXBs) there are also Low-Mass X-ray Binaries (LMXBs), and that Cygnus X-1 is most probably a black hole. By 1975 also the new class of Be/X-ray binaries was discovered. After this it took 28 years before ESAs INTE...
